The Dynamics 365 metadata layer, translated. All of it.

Every Dynamics 365 rollout that crosses a language border hits the same wall: the built-in translation export covers only part of what users actually see. Free community tools close some gaps. Here is an honest look at what each approach covers — and what only xRM Translation Studio does.

What actually gets translated?

Four approaches, sixteen capabilities — free tools earn every checkmark they are documented for.

✓ supported · ◐ partial · — not supported

¹ Ribbon translation is documented by the Easy Translator author as not supported (labels exportable, not updatable via SDK).  ² Sitemap labels are not included in Microsoft’s translation export.
Free-tool capabilities per their public documentation and feature lists as of Aug 2026 — corrections welcome. Easy Translator by Tanguy Touzard and CRM Translator by Sergiy Yezhov are excellent free tools; this comparison is about scope, not quality. Adjacent categories are intentionally out of scope: record-data translation (e.g. Inogic Translate4Dynamics), Power Pages portal content (Portal Metadata Translation Manager), and Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 Translation Service (Finance & Operations only).

Why the gaps matter

The pieces the standard tooling misses are not edge cases — they are the most visible parts of the application. The sitemap is the first thing every user sees. The command bar is what they click all day. Business process flows guide their daily work, and dashboards are where management looks first.

When these stay untranslated, the result is a system that feels half-finished: an English navigation over German forms, French fields under an English ribbon. Users notice. Adoption suffers. And every release wave adds new labels that fall into the same gaps again.

Translating these classes by hand is possible — through solution file editing and XML surgery — but it is slow, unsupported territory that most teams quietly skip.

A different architecture, not a better spreadsheet

xRM Translation Studio does not improve the export/import loop — it removes it. Translation happens inside Dynamics 365, in a model-driven app your admins already know how to use.

Translations are stored as editable Dataverse rows: a living translation memory that belongs to your environment. They deploy as real solution metadata from DEV through Test to Production, fully aligned with the Power Platform ALM model. There is no export snapshot, so there is no development freeze — your makers keep working while translation happens.

AI bulk translation runs at roughly 150 labels per minute, using your own AI provider and your own API key. Nothing leaves your control. A coverage cockpit tracks every label across release waves, so new fields and apps never reach users untranslated.

When the free tools are enough

Honesty first: if you translate tables, fields, forms and views once a year in a small environment, Easy Translator is an excellent free tool and we tip our hat to its author. The XrmToolBox community has served this ecosystem for over a decade, and this comparison is about scope, not quality.

xRM Translation Studio earns its license where translation is not a one-off task but an operating concern: multiple languages, frequent releases, sitemap and ribbon coverage, audit-friendly deployment, and admins who should not need a developer tool to fix a label.

Frequently asked questions

Can the built-in Microsoft export translate the sitemap?

No. Sitemap labels are not included in Microsoft's translation export. They can only be maintained through solution file editing — or through xRM Translation Studio, which treats them as first-class translatable labels.

Does Easy Translator handle the ribbon?

No — and to the author's credit, this is documented openly: ribbon labels can be exported but not written back through the supported APIs the tool uses. Translation Studio deploys ribbon translations as solution metadata instead.

Do translations survive deployments?

In Translation Studio, translations are deployment artifacts: Dataverse rows that travel with your solution from DEV to Test to Production. There is no separate file to keep in sync.

Which AI providers are supported?

You bring your own provider and API key — OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. Keys stay under your control; nothing is routed through us.

What does it cost?

An annual licence per active user, with volume tiers: Starter $50 per user per year (up to 50 users, minimum 25 licences), Team $41 (51–250), Business $34 (251–500), Corporate $28 (501–1,000), Enterprise from 1,001 users by private offer. Unlimited languages, unlimited tables, all label classes, all environments in the tenant. Use the ROI calculator to see what the manual process costs you today.
